Barkcellar Bottle Rack

Designed by Michael Boucquillon and Donia Maaoui, the Barkcellar takes its organic, slightly torn-looking silhouette from the trees surrounding the designers' home in the hills near Lucca.

It's made at Alessi's Crusinallo factory in Omegna through a sequence of steel-forming steps — the sheet is cut, laser-perforated, bent, and welded into its final sinuous shape, a process that lets a hard material read as something closer to bark or branch. The result functions as a small bottle rack and, just as much, as a piece of sculptural kitchen furniture.
