Fatman, Folding cake stand

Closed, it is a sculpture. Open, it serves the whole table.

Marcel Wanders designed Fatman as an object that refuses to be just one thing — a folded, colourfully decorated stainless steel form that sits on a shelf as a piece of art until the moment it's needed, when it unfolds into a multi-tier cake stand. The round silhouette and bold decoration give it the presence Wanders intended: part playful character, part serious tableware.

It is a genuinely dual-purpose piece — practical for entertaining, striking enough to leave out on display between uses.
