Kaleidos Basket, White

Folded steel that behaves like paper.

Invited to work with cut and bent stainless-steel sheet, a process central to Alessi's craft, Naoko Shintani drew on the Japanese tradition of origami for the Kaleidos basket. It is laser-cut from a single sheet and then worked through a sequence of delicate folds across six segments, recreating the lightness of paper in metal. The name is apt: like a kaleidoscope, the faceted form catches the light and multiplies whatever it holds.

This version pairs the stainless-steel body with a white epoxy-resin finish. At 26 cm in diameter and 9 cm high, it works equally as a small fruit bowl, a basket or a standalone piece. Made in Italy.
