A cup holder that brings a little of the sea to the table.
Emma Silvestris designed Mediterraneo for Alessi, drawing on coral for its openwork, organic form. Cut from mirror-polished stainless steel, it turns the weight of metal into something that reads as light and decorative, holding cups, utensils or napkins with a sculptural flourish. The design has its roots in Alessi's LPWK workshop of 2004, where sheet-metal fretwork was used to give steel a sense of lightness.
Decorative and useful in equal measure, it works as happily as a centrepiece as it does a practical holder.
