The Mediterraneo kitchen roll holder traces back to designer Emma Silvestris's exploration of marine forms for Alessi — fretworked steel standing in for coral, sea fans, and the quiet geometry of the ocean floor. It began as a fruit holder; its reception was strong enough that Alessi carried the same language into a run of kitchen accessories, this roll holder among them.

Cut and finished in steel, it holds a standard paper towel roll upright and visible rather than tucked out of sight — a countertop object as much as a utility one.
