The espresso maker that put Alessi's kitchenware in New York's Museum of Modern Art.
Known by its catalogue number, 9090, this was Alessi's first espresso coffee maker and went on to win the Compasso d'Oro — Italy's top industrial design award — the same year it entered MoMA's permanent collection, 1979. Richard Sapper built in a handful of practical details still unusual for the category: an enlarged base for faster, more even heating, an anti-drip spout, and a lever-lock lid that opens with one hand. It's made in 18/10 stainless steel with a magnetic steel base for induction hobs — confirm your hob activates with a base at least 90mm across.
